Hillary Steel MBE

Posted on April 24, 2014 at 12:00 PM Comments comments (0)

It is with great sadness that today we learn of the death of Hilary Steel MBE.

Hilary was a true Rugby League person who fought passionately over countless many years championing the game she loved dearly. Her tireless efforts for the Community game as a whole and the Warrington district in particular will leave a legacy for many years to come.

Hilary was a fantastic inspiration to so many people in her variety of roles in the game with her knowledge and advice, including many referees who have benefited from her support down the years.

Sadly, the cancer which she fought to the end has taken away a wonderful and visionary lady who will be terribly missed by everyone who came to know her but who now can be at peace.

On behalf of everyone at St Helens RLRS we send our sincere condolences to all her family and friends at this sad time.

Hilary's funeral will take place on Friday 9 May

Four of our society members will be taking part in the St Helens 10K run on Sunday 9th March. The society’s vice chairman (who will be running the 10K) has asked for sponsorship. He will be raising money for ‘The Steve Prescott Foundation’. If anyone would like to support him and help raise money for this wonderful charity please donate any amount by either following this link www.justgiving.com/amulligan or by texting: ‘AMUL94’ with the amount you’d like to donate (e.g. £2) to 70070. All the proceeds will go directly to the SPF. Andrew has also promised that if he finishes the race in less than 1hr 5mins he will double the amount of money donated himself. So please help Andrew out!

Good Luck to the 4 members running;

• Tomas Frodsham

• David Gaskell

• Andrew Mulligan

• Ben Yoxall
